Economic
Outlook in Orlando
This
year Orlando’s economy seems to be moving in the right direction,
with a gradually declining unemployment rate that dipped to 4.8 in October,
far below the national average of 6.0.
Reportedly the world’s number one vacation
destination, Orlando’s economy is dominated by tourism. Yet in
recent years, that economy has begun to diversify and now embraces,
in addition to recreation, entertainment, and citrus fruits, the automotive
and computer industries, financial services, research & development
facilities, business and industrial centers, and a number of corporate
headquarters. Manufactures now range from apparel, boats and marine
accessories to multi-purpose vehicles, military and aerospace assemblies,
electronic components, computer software, and processed foods. The area
is served by excellent road and rail systems and by the Orlando International
Airport.
